What is the true dealer cost on a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser accessor-ized as follows?
2008 FJ Cruiser
Manual Transmission
5 Piece all weather floor and cargo mats (2Q)
Convenience Package (C7)
Convenience Package (CQ)
Off-Road Package (OF)
I'm asking for the actual cost to dealer, before they tack on factory holdbacks, floorplan fees, destination charges, etc etc. Please have supporting evidence. I'm looking for a solid number, not a guess. Thanks in advance!
They have printed off a "dealer invoice" reflecting Holdback, TDA, floorplan fees etc that put the dealer cost at $25912, but the current offer is less, so I know that the number is padded. Are there any factory to dealer incentives going on on the '08 FJ's right now?
The invoice price they gave you is accurate. The distributors fees are a hard cost to the dealer -- unless you are buying it off the factory floor, you ain't getting around those charges and neither is the dealer. These charges differ by region, but in the South East you have a little over $1400 in distribution charges. The hold-back will also be different on port installed options, but you're looking at about $500 worth on that FJ. Can't give you an exact number without knowing the exact vehicle and region, but I'm within $100.
In the SE region there is a $4000 "dealer choice" rebate/dealer cash. May be different for your area.
What the dealer paid for it is a lot less important than what they will sell it to you for. The guy who thinks he knows all about this whole invoice "fraud" and offers $18k will be laughed out of the dealership. 30% Mark-up? Do you have any idea what you're talking about? The FJ, like most Toyotas, has about 8% mark up from invoice to MSRP, and less than half that between dealer cost and invoice.
However, those things are moving slowly right now, and you shouldn't have too much trouble getting it for $1000 behind invoice plus rebate.
