An Introduction To Home Security Locks
Home security locks is an important component to any home security system. A house can use the most advanced technology in detecting an intrusion but all of them may not be necessary if the house have reliable home security locks as they literally prevent the intruder from accessing an entrance point. Good home security locks can also serve as a deterrent as professional thieves are usually discouraged to rob a house that has quality locks; on the other hand, if a burglar insists on entering a house with impenetrable strong locks, he or she may just lose precious time and eventually give up on the attempt.
The door lock is one the most important home security lock that you need to invest in. There are several ways that a burglar can force entry through a door and some of it are kicking the door, picking the lock, hammering the lock, prying the door open with tools, spreading the frames apart with a spreader bar, and many more. Make sure that you keep this in mind as you buy the home security locks that you will use for your door. A combination of locks is necessary in order to cover all the possible bases.
A door knob lock alone can never ever count as a home security lock. Relying on them alone is like asking your house to be robbed. Door knob locks can easily be picked with wires or even pried with just a credit card and therefore you need to use other locks to strengthen the protection of your door, especially the one in front. A good and solid reliable lock that can supplement a door knob lock is a deadbolt lock. Deadbolt locks are made of solid steel and therefore they cannot be tampered with easily. They also require dedicated keys to open and there is no other way around it.
The only disadvantage of a deadbolt lock that it can be an obstacle on emergency situations and cause you and your family to be trapped inside. Therefore if you plan to incorporate deadbolt locks in your home security locks, at least make sure that the keys to it are very accessible to all family members. How to Build a gymnastics mini bar (skilled handyman have an answer?)?
I started a small gymnastics program in my community and would like to have the use of a mini bar. It is a single bar to practice basic gymnastics bar skills. Does anyone have any idea if it is possible to build one or will I have to shell out the 300+ dollars to purchase one? I had local woodworkers build me a few low balance beams and saved time and money. Thought I might be able to do the same thing with a mini bar but can't find any info on building one...Anyone ever built one, or know how? Here's a basic description:
Rail: 1.5" diameter - solid maple wood
Bar height adjustable from 38" to an unequaled 58".
Bar height is secured using a snaplock/turnpin combination.
Flat spreader bar (parallel to the top bar) connects the two legs under the mat, adding extra stability.
This sounds like it might be somewhat complicated to put make, but maybe there is an easier way? Any ideas?
To me, this project does not sound complicated at all -- but attempting it without experience would be more trouble than it's worth. If you have photos of similar equipment to show to your local woodworkers, they should be able to tackle it -- however I would be surprised if anyone would build it for anywhere near $300. Charging double or triple the cost of materials is standard practice when it comes to custom woodwork...
You need to ask yourself how much YOUR time is worth (never mind aggravation, or the safety of your students), and when you do you may decide it's better to just go ahead and buy one.
Simply put, mass-production brings costs down, so unless you have a woodworking family member with extra time and a well-equipped shop, a ready-made item is often likely to be less expensive. Weigh your options.
Apologies for not having my own shop and living so far away. You know I'd build it for the cost of materials otherwise.

Lower East Side Girls Club Gets Airstream Trailer on the Second Floor (MAKE Magazine)
Early on a recent Friday morning, a crane hoisted an old Airstream trailer
onto the second floor of a building under construction in the Alphabet City
section of Manhattan. The shiny aluminum trailer (circa 1958) is destined to
become a recording studio inside of the Lower East Side Girls Club, currently
just a concrete shell on Avenue D between 7th and 8th Streets. There was not
much clearance to slip the 23-foot long trailer onto the second floor --only
20 inches-- so the chilly autumn air was fraught with anxiety as the 2,000 lb.
trailer rose off a flatbed truck.
